Did you know that divorce and separation do not of themselves harm outcomes for children?
Long term, unresolved conflict is what causes harm to children that lead to less favourable outcomes.
That is why mediation can offer one of the best ways to help make decisions for children when parents separate. Decisions may need to be made about where the children will live, how often they will spend time with each parent or how often they will see grandparents and wider family members.
It can also be used to discuss and decide where children should go to school, which religion they should follow or if they should relocate abroad or to another part of the country with a parent.
I will ensure that we keep the children front and centre of all discussions and that we consider their needs in everything that is discussed. If you are able to reach agreement, I can draft that into a Parenting Plan for you both so that it is clear what has been agreed and what the plan is for the children.

It is really important to understand the impact that separation can have on children and how to minimise harm to them. These websites are very helpful: https://www.cafcass.gov.uk/sites/default/files/migrated/Top-Tips-for-parents-who-are-separated.pdf

Don’t forget that children’s schools and GPs can be a great source of support.
